Invisalign offers several great benefits that you don’t get with other fixed braces treatments. They include:
Discreet treatment
The key to Invisalign’s discrete nature lies in the transparent clear aligner material. Made from BPA-free plastic, when worn over the teeth it can be very hard to spot. So unless you mention it, no one needs to ever know that you are undergoing invisible braces treatment, leaving you to smile and speak with confidence.
Zero surprises
What if we told you that you get to see a pixel-perfect picture of your completed smile before commencing treatment. It’s true! The power of technology allows us to create a virtual representation of how you want your smile to look. In effect, you get to design your treatment with no surprises at the end.
No brackets and wiring
Conventional fixed braces are all about brackets and wiring and are worn in the mouth for the duration of your treatment. Over time, they can rub causing discomfort as well as drawing attention to where it is least wanted.
With Invisalign, however, brackets and wiring are exchanged for a sleek appliance that is elegant, comfortable and easily removable.
Kind to teeth
Because Invisalign aligners are designed to be removed every time you eat and drink, teeth are that much easier to clean. Easy brushing means that teeth can be kept free from plaque, debris and bacteria.
Zero food restrictions
It’s a well-known fact that patients opting for conventional orthodontic treatment should avoid certain foods like toffee, popcorn or nuts for the duration of their treatment. This is because they can become lodged or stuck in their braces.
With Invisalign, however, patients don’t have to worry. Because each aligner is designed to be removed when eating, there are no such food restrictions.
Are you ready to transform your smile? The way forward is clear!
When you visit your nearest New Life Teeth dental centre for your smile consultation, we will take an impression of your teeth using the latest 3D intraoral scanning technology.
This enables us to show you a virtual demonstration of how your smile will look after treatment while enabling you to see a clear comparison of your before and after smile.
You will also have an opportunity to ask our Invisalign dentist questions about the process and to find out more about your personalised treatment plan.
Once you agree to proceed, your custom aligners are made. Then it’s simply a case of wearing each aligner for the desired amount of time and by the end of the treatment you should achieve your goal of a straighter, healthier smile.

Invisalign treatment offers patients a discreet, comfortable and speedy way to straighten teeth without the hassle of wearing fixed orthodontic braces. Our Invisalign dentists in Dublin have a deep understanding of how Invisalign works and will be able to tell after a quick examination whether this orthodontics process can help your specific situation.
If not, don’t worry because there are several other options that we can suggest to help ensure you achieve the straighter, healthier smile you want or need.
You may have already noticed that when we talk about Invisalign aligners we talk about them in the plural. This is because rather than one fixed appliance worn for the duration of your treatment, Invisalign aligners are designed to work collectively and sequentially.
Each aligner is worn for approximately one to two weeks and will move teeth around 0.25mm. This is done by applying sustained but gentle force. Once the first aligner has done its job, it’s discarded for the next aligner in the series which moves teeth a further 0.25mm. This process of swapping old aligners for new ones continues until the last aligner is worn and your smile goals have been reached.
Each aligner is designed in such a way as to apply just the right amount of force to a tooth. As it does so, pressure is transferred from the tooth down into the tooth root. The jaw then responds by gradually shifting the tooth socket and the teeth move accordingly.
This is why new aligners can feel a little tight for the first few days because it takes this length of time to start the moving process.
In a word, yes. They are designed to be removed when you eat, drink or clean your teeth. You should, however, remember that Invisalign aligners only work when they are in the mouth. This is why they should be worn for around 22 hours a day to maximise treatment. When aligners are worn for less time, it could set a treatment timetable back.
The length of treatment will vary from one person to another depending upon the degree of their orthodontic problem. Our Invisalign dentist in Dublin will tell you how long your treatment should last so you will have a good idea in any case. Usually, however, treatment can take somewhere between 3-9 months to complete and is typically faster than the equivalent fixed orthodontic treatment.
Once you have achieved a straighter smile you need to keep it that way. The problem is that new bone is yet to form around the newly moved teeth. As a result, teeth can and do start to drift back to their old positions. For this reason, you will need to wear a retainer for the time it takes for the tooth to fully settle in its new position. This can be up to 12 months.
Depending upon their condition some people are required to wear a lightweight removable retainer during sleep, while others will initially need to wear theirs all the time.
Either way, our Invisalign dentist will be able to tell you more about wearing a retainer in your personalised treatment plan.
