Professional teeth whitening - What is it?

Professional or ‘boutique’ teeth whitening is only available at dental practices and is a dentist-led treatment.

Unlike many over-the-counter teeth whitening products, professional whitening typically uses higher concentrations of hydrogen and carbamide peroxide bleaching agents.

This means that teeth can be whitened to a higher degree and quicker. With chair-side teeth whitening, for example, results can be seen in as little as 1 hour.

Chair-side teeth whitening at New Life Teeth

Dublin patients can benefit from the latest in chair-side teeth whitening.

As the name suggests the procedure is carried out at our dental centre under the guidance of our highly experienced team. Treatments are safe, proven and effective at the removal of extrinsic (surface) staining and intrinsic (ingrained) tooth staining. We will work with you to achieve a natural shade of whiteness that brings out the best in your smile.

Take-home kits – Teeth whitened your way!

At New Life Teeth, we also provide boutique teeth whitening kits that you can use in the comfort of your own home.

Teeth whitening trays are custom-made to fit the exacting contours of your teeth and once filled with the whitening gel, they can be used either during the day or overnight to suit your preference. Results take anywhere between 7-14 days to achieve, although you should notice a difference after a few days. The results, however, are well worth it.

Getting the best of both worlds

Many patients enjoy having a session of chair-side teeth whitening to lighten up their current smile and will then use our take-home treatments as a smile booster, as and when required.

If you would like to find out more about boutique chair-side or take-home teeth whitening at our Dublin dental centres or would like to know more about teeth whitening cost, contact the team at New Life Teeth for a free smile consultation.

Commonly asked questions about teeth whitening

Is teeth whitening safe?

Because professional whitening is a dentist-led treatment, we ensure that all patients undergo a thorough dental examination before being considered for treatment. This means that any problems such as cavities or gum disease which may otherwise be problematic for teeth whitening patients are dealt with first.

What is the difference between your take-home kits and kits that you can buy over-the-counter?

There are two fundamental differences between the two kits.

Firstly, EU regulations state that shop-bought whitening kits cannot contain any more than 0.1% hydrogen peroxide (bleaching agent) whereas kits supplied by a dentist typically contain bleaching agents of around 6% concentration. This is seen as the gold standard treatment level for achieving whiter teeth effectively and safely.

The other consideration is that the whitening trays used to contain the gel are custom made to fit your teeth whereas shop-bought teeth whitening treatments are a standard fit. As a result, you can’t always guarantee all-over, even whitening with products that you buy in a store.

Is it possible to bleach dental restorations?

While dental restorations won’t be harmed by teeth whitening, they cannot be whitened either. Unlike tooth enamel, those materials are non-porous and therefore aren’t receptive to any form of stain removal. If you do want whiter crowns or fillings, then it’s best to speak to our New Life Teeth dentists to find out whether replacing them is advisable.

What about bleaching strips – Are they effective at whitening teeth?

Bleaching strips have a very limited effect primarily because they won’t give you that even whiteness that professional chair-side or take-home teeth whitening does. You will achieve far better results if you see a cosmetic teeth whitening dentist in Dublin who can tailor your treatment to your exacting needs.
